Today’s blog post is from Sherry, an Endorsed Reader with My Tarot Club. Sherry wraps-up this 2-part blog series, sharing how you can recognise and work directly with your ‘psychic team’ during Tarot readings. Take it away, Sherry…
In Part One of this blog, we looked at how to make a connection with your guides and play some games with them to get the communication flowing. Hopefully, you’ve made some progress! In Part Two, we are going to look at how you will know your guides are around and how to have them help you with your Tarot readings.
Recognising Your Guides
Feeling Their Energy
Guides are always in the background, assisting us with our lives and working towards our greater good. However, this may not necessarily involve being present all the time as they have other places to go and things to do as part of their role. So how can you tell when your guide is around you? Well, there are a number of ways. First, many people these days meditate, so in a meditative state with the absence of other stimuli and a quieted mind, you may ask your guide to step into your immediate environment. There will be an accompanying change of energy that you will learn to identify and then recognise on other occasions, such that you may also recognise it outside of your meditation sessions.
You may be wondering how you will know it when you feel it, so why not try with some humans first? At work or home when you are sitting around people who are familiar to you, close your eyes. When they get up and move, can you feel their energy move past you? Can you recognise who it is that’s moving? If you would like to test yourself, grab some willing volunteers and have them step forward towards you while your eyes are closed or ask them to walk past you. You may be surprised how easy it is to know who it is. Ask yourself how you recognised them. What was distinct about them? It will possibly be the case that you don’t really have words for how you knew, you just did. It’s exactly the same with your guides. Their energy feels exactly the same as it moves in close to you and touches your aura.
Feeling Them Physically
The second way to recognise your guides is they may have a distinct calling card. One of my guides used to make his presence known by making the right side of my head and shoulder go freezing cold. I now have another guide who comes in when I do readings and I feel his energy move along the wall to the left hand side of me until he reaches my shoulder where he stands watching. So feel for manifestations of their energy and notice how it impacts your physical body. Perhaps you go tingly or you feel a touch on the side of your face. Once you acknowledge the communication, your guides will continue to use that method to attract your attention. Bear in mind though that if you have more than one guide, they may each use a different way to communicate with you.
Working with Your Guides during Tarot Readings
Ask for Help
So how can they help you do Tarot readings? In a myriad of ways, actually. I like to explain out loud to my guides what I’m about to do. So for example, ‘Hi guides, I’m about to do a reading for X. Could you please give me information on their romantic life? I’m going to draw 3 cards and then I need you to jump in and start feeding me the information please.’ If I find a new Tarot spread in a book I want to try, I will call my guide in by name and show them what I’m looking at in the book and ask ‘Can we do a spread using this?’ So I am always speaking to them in the exact same way as I would to a physical human and explain exactly what I would like from them on that occasion.
Expect Fast & Subtle Messages
So what does communication from a guide feel like? Well, it’s fast. Imagine if I took a feather and brushed it across your head really quickly. That’s the level of speed and subtlety you are working with. In the beginning, it will be so fast you will probably be unable to catch what it was that was communicated to you and you might only know that you got something. The trick here is just to notice it in the first place. After much practice, you will start to recognise content in the communication. Then after more practice, it will become discernable to you and seem to slow down where you can understand it. It’s very much like watching lightning on a stormy night. At first, the lightning flashes catch you off guard and they’re gone before you can grasp them. Then you start knowing they are coming and so you prepare yourself to see them and they seem to last longer when they do come. It’s a matter of focusing your attention in a particular direction to the exclusion of other stimuli until you become very practiced at tuning in and can do so in any environment.
Guides may give you information to supplement what you are seeing in the cards. I have a guide who likes to finish my sentences or give me words or images to go with what I’m seeing. For example, if I see a new man coming into someone’s life and I am trying to describe their energy, my guide might give me a quick image of a particular celebrity who represents the traits I’m trying to describe. Sometimes, I am given images of particular stories or books to describe the energy of a situation or I may even be given a line from a song. I really enjoy these little snippets and always include them in my readings. It’s amazing how often a client will come back and say they had just been thinking of that particular celeb/story/song earlier in the day in regards to their situation and it’s so apt. So no matter what sort of reference you get, know that your guides are trying to establish a line of communication to help with your readings and what they are providing you with has relevance to your client – even if you don’t see it personally.
Pause and Wait for Information Outside of the Tarot Cards
For those of you who are regulars on the My Tarot Club website, you will have seen the Six Mistakes of Reading Tarot for Yourself. One mistake is trying to learn all possible exact meanings of each card. If you would like to work with your guides doing readings, learning the exact meanings of each card can be a little problematic. When you are fixated on exact meanings for each card, you are engaging your brain in a way that blocks psychic messages coming through.
Imagine the cards in your Tarot spread as being like rocks in a stream and the psychic messages from your guides as the water flowing over the top of them. Once you do your spread, sit back and feel for the water (messages) moving over the top of the cards. This may link some cards together, change the meanings of some cards and even ignore some cards altogether – just let yourself feel what’s happening. When you treat the cards as ‘rocks’ in a concrete way this process becomes very difficult, if not impossible, because you are ignoring the water and blocking it from flowing. One way you can tell if you are doing this is when the spread makes no sense – how can that card possibly connect to the next card? You just can’t see it. The moment you acknowledge that that’s the case, stop ‘thinking’ at your spread and start ‘feeling’ at it. Sit back in your chair and let it flow over you for a few minutes. This allows your guides time to jump in and speak to you without your logic getting in the way.
Give it time!
Please know also that building up and establishing a communication system with your guides can take years and years of practice. But don’t be afraid to tell them you don’t understand or if you are clairaudient (clear hearing) that you can’t hear them properly and can they send the information through more loudly or clearer. Ask them questions, explain what you would like them to do, tell them how they can help you in readings and when you get information, acknowledge and thank them. Over time, you will notice that your team will arrive the minute you sit to do a reading and slowly but surely, you will build up a library of shorthand together so that they can contribute in an interesting, fun way to your readings, which adds value for you and your clients.

Hi Sherry,
Was waiting for the second part of this blog.It was indeed very helpful to learn the various ways to connect with our guides.I call my guide Sam.I closed my eyes and asked from the Universe to name my guide. And this was the first name that came through.Have been trying to connect and feel his presence but not with much success.Though twice I have seen my coffee cup move back and forth on it’s own, wondering if it was him.I am into meditation and regular chakra cleansing activities. This would help to build my psychic connection I hope. But I agree the process is slow and requires tremendous patience to be a good ‘receiver’ .Wonder if there is a Aha moment to definitely say it was your guide !
The way you have incorporated psychic energies to help Tarot readings is truly amazing. This would definitely help clear the blockages which prevent a clear message to emerge from a reading.
After reading this post about guides I hope to put more efforts in building my psychic abilities and to feel the presence of my guide near me.
Thanks to both Brigit and Sherry for this post.

Hi Aasheesh
Glad to hear you’ve met your guide. Sam sounds like a great name to me and I think the famous medium Lisa Williams has a guide named Sam too if I remember correctly.
You ask a fantastic question about how do you ‘know’ when you are communicating with your guide. To tell you the truth, I always approach these issues not really believing until I have proof and I suspect I have missed a very significant amount of spiritual contact in my life by following this. However, I can tell you about my *aha* moment when I no longer doubted. My primary guide is White Cloud who assists mediums develop their abilities. He’s not just *my* guide and I share him with other people in this industry (which I didn’t know when I first made contact). Anyway, one day I saw a Chinese man come in who was always smiling and laughing and so I thought I had a second guide as well. Well, I went for a reading with another psychic and he asked me if I knew my guide. I said yes I did and his name was White Cloud. He subsequently told me that White Cloud is quite a well known guide in the metaphysical community and I should know that sometimes he presents himself as a laughing Asian man as well but they don’t know why. Well Aasheesh, that just blew me away! I had not mentioned the laughing guide to anyone and he had no way of knowing what I had seen and that 100% confirmed it for me that what I seeing were guides and they were the ones passing the information to me during readings.
Once I recognised that the way I was seeing them was real, then I noticed a significant amount more contact because I am aware and watching for how it comes in. For me, psychic information and guide contact comes in above my right eye but on the inside of my head. It’s like a television screen that is off but as soon as a message is coming, it’s like the screen goes on and I see and hear things that way. I also feel contact from the other side external to me and it feels every bit as real or normal as feeling other people in a room. There are plenty of messages and information in the air around you and try holding out your hands and feeling things as they move past or the information in the air.

Wow Sherry ! Truly amazing stuff.I am sure that Aha moment would have been a true flag post in your metaphysical journey. You are right that one has to keep the awareness as to how the information flow is coming through. It is all about developing your individual sensitivity towards receiving your psychic signals. Thanks for all the tips, and advice.Look forward to more such posts from you. This subject truly fascinates me .

Thanks Aasheesh! I look forward to sharing more with people during the year.

Hello to you and your guides!
I found this very informative as I meditate frequently. I have never consciously tried to contact my guides but I am going to try and make contact. I read tarot cards mostly for myself and family and find myself getting conflicting messages due to being too concrete, like your article describes. Here is an official welcome to my guides…I hope I can tune in to you and recognize your messages.
Good luck Kat!
Sherry
