This week, I welcome Blackfoot Angel who is an Angel Tarot card reader. She shares with us a post on why we’re so drawn to the Tarot, whether we’re a reader or a querent or client.
Over to you, Blackfoot Angel…
What is it that draws us to tarot card reading or predictions in general? For some, it may be a little light entertainment. For others, it is to delve deeply into one’s soul to truly understand what it is that makes us tick. Whether we’re the reader or the querent, there’s something unique and magical that draws us to the Tarot.
What Motivates a Querent to Have Their Cards Read
Clients that really want to get the most out their reading can embark upon a journey of empowering self-discovery. The things that the cards reveal are sometimes life-changing and frequently comforting. Every reading reveals something not only about their future but also something about them as a person. If they take to heart what the cards reveal, it can help them make wise, informed choices and also develop and grow spiritually, morally and emotionally.
Unfortunately, not everyone will have such a profound experience. Why? Not all querents are of the right frame of mind to seek such an edifying quest. They may reach that point at some time later in their life, but at the moment they just want their ears to be tickled and be told that everything is going to be alright. This sometimes makes it somewhat difficult for the reader, if the cards don’t tell the client what they want to hear. Part of the reader’s job is be as tactful as possible in revealing the truth in an effort not just to satisfy the customer but as a means to encourage them to learn and make personal progress.
A Tarot Card Reader’s Motivation
For many readers and psychics the practice of reading is one of love. Not the soppy mooning over a person with dreamy eyes type, but the good old fashioned love for your neighbor. Caring about your fellow man or woman and wanting to do something about it, to help cultivate a little peace and harmony in the world.
For some of us there was a point on our journey through life when we had a road to Damascus moment and came to the sudden realization that we had to help people. Up until that moment we might have been cruising along in life, expecting everyone else to help themselves while we took care of our own interests. Then some disaster or profound experience made us realize that there is more to life than self-interest. It may have been then that they started to learn or decided to offer tarot card readings.
Not all of us had that life-changing moment; instead we have an inborn knowledge that is as much a part of who we are as the color of our eyes.
Either way, we take on the role of mentor, counselor, friend and confidant all in one. The “Golden Rule” should be our firmly entrenched mantra.
So far I have revealed an optimist’s impression of what a tarot card reader is. In the interests of honesty, I should also point out that there are other types of readers. Not all readers are motivated by love. For an unscrupulous few the motivation is not love of neighbor but love of money or glory. Adulation is not something a good cartomancer should actively seek. Sure it is nice if someone compliments us and treats us with respect and to a certain extent building a reputation is important, but it shouldn’t be our main focus or motivation. It pains me deeply to see the odd bad apple trying to fool the desperate or gullible. A majority of readers are not like this, but unfortunately the work of these charlatans reflects badly upon the rest of us. If you are a querent, please don’t be put off by this small minority.
Most of us in the field of cartomancy take our responsibility just as seriously as a doctor towards his patients. I use the word “responsibility” because that is what it is. Whether by birth or by practice, we have been awarded a gift and it carries with it a responsibility to do no harm, to help others and to help them to heal. Much of the responsibility also rests upon the client, because at the end of the day it is up to them to make their own choices in life. We may only be a medium through which the cards speak, but we mustn’t underestimate the role that our words may play in a client’s evaluation and decision-making process. For legal purposes we all must have standard disclaimers on our sites, but we know what our moral obligations are, regardless of our legal ones.
Receiving a Tarot Reading with Good Intentions
If you wish to have a tarot card reading, please choose wisely but know that, when you become a part of the tarot enthusiast’s community, you enter into a congregation of love and kindness. Useful pointers to help in your choice of reader and to make the most of your reading include the following:-
- Is your choice of reader recommended?
- Do they follow a reasonable code of ethics?
- Ask yourself the question, “Can I trust this person to be honest with me?”
- What is their motivation? (Usually their gifts are used in a spirit of humility and benevolence. However, if they are all “I’m, so wonderful you should all bow down to me and my great presence,” then suspect their motives)
- Don’t think that they are only in it for the money simply because they charge for their services (doctors, nurses and all manner of valuable professionals have to earn a living and thus charge for their time and skillful efforts. There is nothing wrong in this).
- Choose your query carefully by asking a question about something that really matters and not something like whether you should have a red M&M instead of the yellow one.
- Free readings are not always bad ones, but don’t expect great accuracy as sometimes this is used as a valuable teaching method for amateurs. It is a general rule of thumb that you get what you pay for.
- Open your eyes and really see yourself honestly. This humility can help you get the most out of your reading and assist your spiritual and emotional development.
- Once you have received your reading, ask yourself, “What is the wisest way to use this information?”
When treated with respect, tarot reading is enjoyable and can be very beneficial. Have fun with tarot card reading, whether you are a querent or a reader. May you be blessed with good luck, wisdom and joy.

Thank you for your wonderful insite into the world of Tarot Reading. I feel humbled to be among gentle souls like yourself who know who they are and what they can do for others.
I have just taken Tarot reading up once again after 20 years of leaving them alone after my cards went missing. I am in love with my new cards and would never put them down again now that I have started. I understand what you are talking about very much.
Peace and light be with you Blackfoot Angel,

Welcome!
TAROT CARDS DON’T LIE!
Lovely comforting words about the practice of tarot reading as one of love, Blackfoot Angel! I love it!
I did a one-year study through a teacher in Melbourne via skype and so am still a novice. I am going through a re-adjustment period as I have just left full-time work after over 30 years of corporate life, and trying to find my equilibrium again. To define myself, as work shouldn’t define us!
I am also facing a few challenges along the way so I have been picking one tarot card a day to guide me. And I can say that the tarot cards really reflect my state of mind, e.g. because of my current stresses, the card I picked today was the Five of Swords. There is obviously lots of tension and conflict in my life now. I am also questioning whether I am the victim or the aggressor. Everyone always thinks they are right – it’s really a matter of perspective isn’t it?
What I can say is that Tarot Cards do not lie and they truly reflect my state of being – I am now also trying to find guidance in them. If there are women/ tarot readers out there like me trying to find their equilibrium again, I would love to share experiences! It would be nice to help each other through a loving tarot network!
Thank you for sharing Lena, I would love to talk with you and you and I both can share ideas…
