“Tarot is a guidebook for life. Each card offers a key to unlock spiritual mysteries. As we study tarot, we learn about life and about ourselves… When we understand the versatility of tarot, we enlist tarot as a tour guide on life’s journey” – Christiana Gaudet in Tarot Tour Guide
I think I’ve found my Tarot twin. Christiana Gaudet, author of Tarot Tour Guide, and I share some very similar philosophies about the Tarot.
We both know that Tarot is so much more than a deck of cards.
We both agree that there is more to Tarot than gimmicky fortune-telling.
And we both see Tarot as a tool for spiritual growth and learning.
Christiana and I also share a very similar writing and teaching style. Her approach is grounded, practical and succinct, and she knows the value of including hands-on exercises as part of any Tarot learning program.
I think that this is why, when I read Tarot Tour Guide, I found myself nodding my head in agreement and eagerly following the journey that is held within this book.
Tarot Tour Guide is a well-written, well-balanced book. It presents Tarot as a spiritual tool and guide, and draws upon the concept of magick and ritual to tap into its huge potential and to attract the types of outcomes you desire. Christiana maintains a grounded approach by then exploring the Tarot card meanings of each card (but keeping it short and sweet), the relationships between the cards (including an in-depth section on the Path of the Fool), Tarot spreads and more.
Christiana highlights four types of Tarot readings – interpretative (interpreting the traditional meanings of the cards); intuitive (using the symbols to stimulate the intuition); psychological (counselling with the cards); and archetypal (working with the archetypes in the cards). I’ve never thought of readings in this way, but it certainly makes sense.
The last section is particularly creative, as it is structured around the four elements and presents different Tarot reading techniques and considerations in alignment with earth, air, water and fire. For example, in the Air section, Christiana discusses various Tarot reading topics such as using the cards for decision-making, delivering bad news, ethics.
All throughout the book, Christiana includes a number of exercises to embed your learning, pitched both at beginners and more advanced Tarot readers, expanding the book’s appeal to a wider audience.
Tarot Tour Guide is one of those valuable books that is self-contained. That is, you can read from start to finish, and have a good foundational knowledge of Tarot at the end of it. It’s not the type of book where you deep diving into a specific Tarot topic, but it covers the key things you need to know to be able to read the Tarot.
I asked Christiana what inspired her to write the book (which is often very telling about what value you will derive from the book itself):
“I wanted to write a book that would be accessible to beginning students, but would also be eye-opening and refreshing to intermediate and advanced readers. I wanted to write a book that shows my personal relationship with tarot, and explains how each person can develop their own personal relationship with tarot.
“There are many specialty tarot books these days. There are books for beginners, books about tarot magick, books about tarot spreads. I wanted to present a book that included a smattering of all these things, highlighting tarot as a spiritual tool, but also giving practical knowledge about the many ways to use that tool.”
Well, I certainly think she has achieved it.
Tarot Tour Guide is a comprehensive and solid learning resource which will help not only beginners but more experienced Tarot readers to learn to read Tarot. Christiana has covered all the bases, ensuring that the reader will walk away with a good foundational knowledge of the using the cards for Tarot reading and personal growth.
Overall, I would recommend Tarot Tour Guide to Tarot enthusiasts who are looking to build their knowledge in Tarot and who seek to read Tarot not only for their own spiritual development but to also guide others on their spiritual journeys.
Tarot Tour Guide is available in large paperback or for Kindle at Amazon.
