In the first two articles in this series Part 1 and Part 2 we looked at different psychic messages you may receive in your readings. In this final article, I will discuss a particular psychic interaction that both you and your client can enjoy equally during a reading.
What are Psychic Symbols?
I have spoken previously about how psychic phenomena can be relayed in a variety of ways to those receptive to it. There are sounds, pictures, feelings and smells among other things. Your tarot or oracle cards are a particularly good way to allow your guides or angels to start to develop a symbol or visual library with you to enhance communication. If you are someone who pays particular attention to psychics and mediums as they work, you will notice a phrase that they often use is ‘that’s my symbol for…’ What they are referring to is the shorthand code they have developed with upstairs to allow messages and concepts to come through more quickly and easily.
For a psychic, doing a reading feels like a fast-paced game of charades, where upstairs flash messages quickly via sight, sound and feeling. The symbol you receive may be just a quick picture, but it’s designed to embody a concept that the psychic can then turn into words to pass onto you. Why would upstairs do that when they could just tell you the exact information? Well, part of the reason may be that we as humans do it all the time too. Let’s look at an example.
Imagine you are driving your car along the road and up ahead you see an interaction where there is a red traffic light. Have a think for a moment about what a red traffic light relays to your brain. You may think something along the lines of ‘oh there’s a red traffic light up ahead so I had better stop. If I don’t, I will be breaking the law and I may also cause a car accident for myself and other drivers.’ Now, nowhere is that information written above the light is it? But that glowing red circle is a symbol that holds a whole host of information for your brain to work with.
However, building your very unique symbol library with your team upstairs can take years or decades. This is because everyone is different and often the message you get from a symbol can be a little different to the next person, so it’s a matter of negotiating back and forth with your guides until you reach an agreed upon meaning. Psychics develop this by waiting for the symbol, suggesting a meaning to their guides (‘oh you’re showing me Snow White so this person I am reading for has a gentle heart, is that correct?’) and waiting for confirmation from them that yes, that is what they’re conveying to you. The ‘yes’ may come in the form of a feeling of approval or you may actually get a round of applause like I do from my very animated and enthusiastic guides. Next time they give me Snow White, there is no need to ask and I know exactly what they are suggesting. So how does this relate to tarot? Let’s use an example.
Using Psychic Symbols in Tarot Readings
If you have a deck handy, take a look at the Ace of Cups card. Now, this card has an inherent bright spot right in the centre – the glow around the hand. But imagine you’re doing a reading for someone who is asking details about their new love interest. You know the relationship is there because you have the Ace of Cups, but stop and relax your eyes around the card for a moment. Ask your guides to give you some more information about this new person – what pops out? If a symbol from the card suddenly jumps out at you, that’s your signal that upstairs are trying to give you a message. Here’s where your negotiation with your team kicks in. Let’s say the “W” on the cup grabs you. Ask your guides in your head if it’s a “W” they want you to have. If you get no feeling in response, well what else can you do with this letter? For me, it’s more like an “M” really – is that it guides? Your intuition will tell you if you’re correct in the absence of any overt round of applause and so you might say to your client ‘I feel as though this new person’s name either starts with M or has a prominent M sound in it.’
If you would really like to get the symbol party going, say to your client ‘What jumps out at you from this card?” It may well be the case that their guides take your cue and point something out to their charge too! You could actually do this after you’ve confirmed your own symbol and before you tell your client. If they come back and say ‘well I think there’s something in that “W” but I’m seeing the reading upside down so it looks like an “M” to me’, then you know you’ve hit the jackpot and this is a message to take careful note of.
It’s important to understand that there is a difference between tarot cards as pieces of cardboard and as a psychic activation tool. For a psychic, the cards don’t work without any energy in them so if there’s no question, no intent and no life brought to them, then you can stare at a card as much as you like but nothing will jump out. This is an activity that needs to be explored in the context of a reading, either for you or someone else.
It’s also important to note that once a symbol is used on a card, two things will happen. The first is that upstairs may use that symbol with you outside of using your tarot cards, now you understand it. So you may be reading with oracle cards and all of a sudden you see a picture of the “W” from the Ace of Cups. That’s upstairs using your symbol library across reading types. The second point is that next time the Ace of Cups comes up in your reading; the “W” may be completely meaningless because it has no relevance to the current reading and so something else may jump out at you instead.
So during your next reading, look at the spread and look for the glowing bits. There may be more than one and you can almost get an entire reading just from them alone. Ask your client what pops out to them for added information and have fun weaving all this extra knowledge into your readings for something really special!

Hi Sherry,
Thanks for this very interesting post. It sure would help in fine tuning a reading and tie up the missing links. Also the symbols “reflected” in cards can pop up in different ways. The signboards, ora song etc.. later may remind us of the symbol that popped up from the card ! One has to be constantly aware of what is happening around.
I think one needs to make extra efforts for intution development so that such tools can be harnessed to their maximum potential.Th aura needs to be tuned for the messages from above to get the best results.
I think developing intutuion is the key to be a successful tarot reader .
Look forward to next post on this topic.

Aasheesh
Thanks Aasheesh – I’m glad you enjoyed the article and you’re correct that developing your intuition adds a wonderful dimension to the cards and your readings.

Thank you for these articles, Sherry. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. It’s interesting how elastic symbolic messages can be once you’re taking note of them; as you say, extending and insisting beyond the tarot cards.
I’m glad you have enjoyed them Donna!
Sherry
Thanks Sherry,
Every now and then I do get those little messages from “upstairs. I’ve always called them my Spirit Whispers, and I look forward to receiving them, especially when I start to see a trend. I also know when I’ve understood my Spirit Whisper; when I confirm it with my guide, my immediate response is to yawn.
Duende, Amanda
Hi Amanda – I love ‘spirit whisperer’! That’s exactly what they’re like aren’t they? The yawning is interesting and it’s great to hear from others about the confirmation techniques they have. I have a particular guide who gives me a tap on the head when I’ve understood her and another guide who shows me a round of applause for confirmation of his information. Perhaps it’s peculiar to them rather than us?
Sherry
Sherry, I think it’s them not us. I have one that tickles my nose of all things!
I suspect you may be right Donna! I might ask some other psychics what their confirmation symbols are to see how varied it actually is
